Living in a barn house is a unique experience. While many homes are beautiful, a barn house is not only beautiful, it is completely unique. I was recently visiting a southern state, marvelous sunshine this time of year and lovely homes, but not always individual in their design. With a post and beam barn house,…
Yankee Barn Homes is pleased to introduce a new expression in barn home design; The Barn at Oyster Shores. Unlike our traditional post and beam frame, this new barn home, designed by YBH Creative Director Jeffrey Rosen, will have a smooth, contemporary feel that implies a lightness and effortless sense of structure. No frame will…
Barn home kitchen islands have come a long way over the past 15 years. In the beginning, every kitchen had a peninsula with stools on one side and a work surface on the other. That was then and this is now; the peninsula is still here and thriving but The Island has evolved. A functional,…
The barn house staircase is as individual as the barn house itself, and at Yankee Barn Homes we’ve seen some pretty spectacular staircases. From the type of staircase, i.e. straight, turned with landing(s), spiral, painted, stenciled or “other”; all of the following have unique features. If you’re considering building, this is a great place to…
The barn home master bath takes on as many styles as their are owners, however, I’ve discovered most will fall into two categories: the prominent use of white, or the use of a color to define the space. In looking back through photos Yankee Barn Homes has taken over the past several years, the use…
The barn home great room is probably the most photographed room in a post and beam home. With good reason, as it is often the best room for showing off the beautiful timber frame and the overall style of both the home and it’s owners. At Yankee Barn Homes, we have seen quite a wide…
I introduced you to The Beacon Carriage House last month in my first post on this beautiful post and beam. Today’s update is in tended to catch you up on all that has occurred over the past four weeks. Quite a bit has happened since we last saw this timber frame going up, so let’s…
Yankee Barn Homes is not only “on board” with the Next Gen Housing movement, we’ve actually been building Next Gen housing for some time now! Initially called mother-in-law apartments, they allow multi-generational living under a common roof. Today’s building codes have dictated some changes, such as if a cook-top/stove may be included and, if so,…
This carriage house construction project is quite a sight to behold. Begun this past summer by Yankee Barn Homes, it is now well on it’s way to completion. Please join me in taking a look at it’s evolution thus far, it’s truly quite amazing. The Beacon Carriage House This project, located in Southborough, MA,…
The new barn home dining room actually has nothing to do with the fact the room is new; we all know dining rooms have been around for ages. What is new are the options available to new-build homeowners. Here at Yankee Barn Homes, we’ve seen just about every configuration you might imagine, from separate, formal…
This carriage house goes from components and pieces, to a completely enclosed structure in five days. I’ve purposely left the time stamp on the photos so you may not only watch the progress, but be able to tell how much gets done each day. It’s a fascinating thing to see, in person or by way…
As a change of pace, thought you might be interested in seeing what a barn home looks like prior to one post or beam being cut and placed. This is a current project Yankee Barn Homes is working on for clients in Massachusetts. Besides the drawings and floor plans you’ll see here, the clients are…
