Universal Design has become a very popular in the home build industry. Like the Next-Gen home, universal design homes plan ahead for the future as we age-in-place. They provide the option for us to remain independent and, more importantly, in our own home. These homes have wide hallways and door openings for possible wheel chair access, lower counters/vanities with no draws or shelves below so a wheel chair can easily pull close, no-lip showers and doors, smooth transitions from house to patios/decks, and inclusion of framed-in elevator shafts that double as closets if/until the potential need for an elevator arises.
Yankee Barn Homes is a natural fit for universal design as each home is a custom build. You formulate the floor plan in conjunction with our staff. There is no set model from which you choose, however you might see a YBH house to use as a spring-board. Or, you could begin from scratch with your own concepts. Either way, the design you want is entirely possible, whether it be a stand-alone structure or an addition to an existing home. And we do it all, employing the latest technological advancements in the build industry.
The photo gallery demonstrates how Yankee Barn structures are an ideal fit for the universal design concept. I chose our Stowe Village home addition to show our flexibility when it comes to designing a home. Due to the post and beam frame along with our True Panel wall and roof systems, the exterior and interior of the home may be configured in any way you wish. We can do a large floor plan, a small floor plan or anything in-between. Give us your requirements and we’ll design a home/addition that will suit you to a “T”.
