Farmhouse barn; not two words you often see together, but bear with me. Yankee Barn’s latest design is a stunning post and beam barn home which incorporates a farmhouse wrap-around porch. Coming in at under 2,000 sq ft, (1,978 to be exact), The Merrimack is a fantastic floor plan. Included is a first floor bedroom/bath which stands at the ready to accommodate guests, or serve as the master bedroom for an age-in-place couple. As I discussed last week in my Universal Design post, aging in place has become a very popular design element with today’s savvy build clients. This house is a prime example of smart design choices available to those who build.
The Merrimack design offers an open concept level one floor plan (see gallery photos) which contains a mudroom and private guest/alternate master bedroom space. The second level has a “catwalk” style balcony connecting the master suite with two more bedrooms. Oh, and did you notice the duel chimney fireplace (one for the family room and one that serves the three season porch)? NICE! A great design incorporating four bedrooms and 3.5 baths equals one fantastic floor plan, all in under 2,000 square feet (porch not included).
Be sure to check back over the coming months as construction is well underway. I think you’re really going to like this Yankee Barn. I know I do!
That’s quite a porch. Standard porchl width is 6′ and the so-called ideal is 8′, but this baby has a 10′ wide porch. Now that is what I call a real farmhouse porch! Love it!
Thanks, Kevin. We take our porches very seriously here in New England. As in many other parts of the country, we consider them another “room” in our homes. Glad you like it. We do, too!
Might be exactly what we are looking for to be built in Quechee, VT. Selling our larger home (3500) this spring. Where/When can we see this house?
