Post and beam homes and barns are a wonder to watch go up. For starters, they erect so quickly you might miss it if you aren’t at the site for a week. Secondly, it’s a thrill to see the beauty in the magnificent frame; a stunning skeleton, if you will. There’s something so solid in those timbers, seeing that frame you know your home is going to exceed everything you’d expected. It is an exhilarating experience and a marvel to see.
YBH recently received a progress report from the owners of The Cooperstown Farmhouse. Included were photos of both the home and barn under construction. I knew the second I saw them Post and Beam Living would feature this project. We love how the owners followed a the time-honored tradition of placing the fir tree at the top of the barn frame once it was completed! But enough from me, let’s hear directly from the owners.
“The house roof is done and the first floor sheet rock is ready to prime. After seeing the view from below of the posts and beams upstairs we decided to open up the stairway, change the bedroom doorways and added transoms on the storage room walls and over the bedroom doors. These changes allow the light to fill the whole upstairs and it is so wonderful a space.” This is a great example of why building a custom YBH post and beam home is very different from building with other companies. Even as the house is going up, changes are still possible. This is your forever home. It needs to be exactly as you want it, and we understand sometimes you can’t see what you want until you’re standing in the structure.
“The barn is sided and the trim going on. The big window is in and ready to share a lighted Christmas tree with everyone who drives up the road. Our contractor is working on the front porch this week and grading around the house. We are so pleased with our construction crew. They take such care with every detail and our contractor has great teams of subcontractors working with them on the plumbing, electrical, sheet rocking and excavating. We hope you will someday be able to visit and see the finished work of art.” At YBH we never tire of hearing how much clients like our recommended contractor teams. Post and beam homes are a special breed to build; our suggested contractors know what they’re doing!
Post and Beam Living will be following up on The Cooperstown Farmhouse and Barn as the months progress. If you’d like more information on this or any of our other post and beam homes, please contact us. We’d love to speak with you about your forever dream home.
