With both barns and barn homes, we accept red as the iconic color, but have you ever considered the black barn? Originally more common in Europe, black barns and barn homes have become increasingly popular here in the U.S. It just so happens, Yankee Barn Homes is currently working on a contemporary barn home called Oyster Shores which will be a deep gray/black. You’ll see drawings of it here, as well as a link to more information on it, should you be interested. But we also have another barn home, just designed, which is intended to be done in a stunning black. It is drop-dead gorgeous!
Black Barn Homes Inspiration
As stated in the banner photo of Holverston Hall, located in the county of Norfolk, England, our inspiration for the use of black in both barns and barn homes is entirely British.

Black Barn Homes from Yankee Barn
Taking our cue from “across the pond”, Yankee Barn Homes is now building a black barn house called Oyster Shores. Please see more information on it here: The Barn at Oyster Shores

Yeah, I totally agree that when people think of the barn style homes the color is usually red. But that is just very restricted thinking caused by the fact that maybe we are sometimes too lazy to think outside the box. Black is very cool idea for barn home, not only does it stand out among all the red, but it may also hide the imperfections of the wood better. I have seen also some gorgeous barns painted white..Well, in fact, there are so many colors that would look good on such a house — what about light yellow for example..
We’re with you on this one, Jay! We love barns in just about any color. Thanks for the thoughts. BeamBabe
The new black barn home should be called The Raven. Sleek and mysterious. And, by the way, this is the house I want, only smaller. I am looking to scale down and simplify. Hybrid is the way I am leaning.
Love the idea of calling it The Raven, Lori. I think you should build the scaled down version. Yankee Barn is just the company to build such a project as we are custom home builders. If you can imagine it, we can build it! Thanks for your comments! BeamBabe
