Foothill Folly is a Small Barn House
Small barn house plan Foothill Folly is the type of place we all wish we had. It’s small enough to be easy maintenance but with plenty of room to enjoy, comfortably. Set amidst rolling hills, the home is mere months away from completion.
When we last checked in with the Foothill build, the home’s shell package had been enclosed, but that was about it. Today, it looks very different than it did just a few short weeks ago.

Home Away From Home
Foothill Folly is an ideal design for a vacation home. Not that it wouldn’t work equally well for an upscale downsize home, too. Whether you looking for a plan as a weekend escape or a smaller barn as a primary residence, Foothill suits any number of life stages.
The first level has two garage wells; one for a full size vehicle, the other for a compact car or for equipment storage. The remainder of the first level is living space that includes a bonus room (complete with a laundry area), a mud room, utility closet and a full bath.
The second level is designed as an open space with vaulted ceilings that include visible post and beam frame. A large wall of windows at the open living, dining, and kitchen end, a full bath, and two bedrooms complete the second level space.
Small Barn House Plan Appeal
Foothill Folly is technically considered a carriage house style home, with the main living space located on the second level. The two car garage is located on the first floor. The flipped floor plan is perfect for the site because it is sloped. The house sits atop the site and comes into view on the way up the driveway.
The small barn house design is a rectangle footprint. There are no bump outs. This creates an extremely fuel efficient home that is easy to heat and cool because there are no ells or extensions. The 1,488 square foot space is already proving itself to be a great value. With construction still underway, the solar power system is already generating more power than is being used to finish the build!
