Small Home with Big Appeal
Windham Lodge is a small post and beam recently designed by Yankee Barn Homes. The house is currently under construction, therefore it won’t be long before the homeowners are enjoying their new house.
Inspired by our Moose Ridge Lodge design, Windham put its own unique spin the the small floor plan. Keeping the layout of the living/dining/kitchen areas the same, the changes are based around the bedrooms. While Moose has the primary bedroom on the first level, Windham places it on the second floor. The first floor of Windham has two small bedrooms and uses the entry space for a combination bathroom/laundry room. The second floor has not only the primary bedroom with a full bathroom and walk-in closet, but enough space for a loft and a small bunkroom. This creates more sleeping space than is afforded in the Moose Ridge plan.

Small Post and Beam Living
Living in a small house brings with it pluses and minuses. However, a small post and beam home often has vaulted ceilings and at least one wall of windows. If you’ve been in a small house with low ceilings and not much natural light, you already understand how cramped the home can feel. A small post and beam house removes the sense of cramped space by using vaulted ceilings and loads of windows. Windows are often grouped together to bring in natural light and to create a feeling of spaciousness.
The advantage of fewer walls in a post and beam home also allows for a sense of larger open spaces. While the square footage of Windham is only 1,748, the house lives so much larger due to the open floor plan in the common areas.
We hope to follow this build as it progresses. We’ll update progress when new photos become available. Check back soon, you won’t want to miss this little gem in the woods!
