Our newest design comes from the mind of Yankee Barn Homes Co Owner and Creative Director, Jeffrey Rosen. The Weathersfield is a partial post and beam home. This means the timber frame is present only where the home owner wants it. Based on Jeffrey’s Cove Hollow design, the Weathersfield expands on the theme of our Cove Hollow floor plan and alters the appearance of the exterior to a more traditional colonial.
New England Colonial
The Weathersfield is designed to co-exist with other period homes in a Northeastern coastal community. Designed as a family home, the architectural style may best be described as a New England Colonial with shingle facade. Natural light streams through the house due to large massings of traditional style windows and doors. There is only one vaulted ceiling in this design; the master bedroom. The master bedroom is also one of two spaces where the partial post and beam structure comes into play. The other is a non-vaulted family room just off the breakfast area.
Partial Post and Beam
At this juncture, it’s worth talking a bit more about the concept of a partial post and beam home. Yankee Barn Homes’ build technology allows us to create a home which is equally weather tight to a full timber frame structure. Our True Wall™ Panels are constructed with 2″x 6″ 16” on center construction. True Roof™ Panels are constructed with either 2″x8″ 16” on center or 2″x10″ (depending upon energy codes). Each panel is built with a lift loop and a panel joint for quick and easy assembly on site. For more information, please see: Home Package Components.
Floor Plan Evolution
There is an interesting story regarding the evolution of this floor plan. Jeffrey’s first house using this layout was Sands Point. It was so popular, it grew into Cove Hollow; basically the Sands Point plan with a sun room added off the living room. The Weathersfield takes the design to the next level with an added family room off the breakfast room and an expanded mud room/utility core (pantry, laundry, powder room).
The Weathersfield is currently being built. We will report on progress as we receive updates. Please Stay Tuned!
