Barn house swank is a thing! Yankee Barn Homes’ clients are an elite group who want a custom-built home which reflects not only their personality, but a nod to their hard work and achievements. Consequently, we see quite a few YBH designs with one or more upscale or swank features incorporated into the home. Here are the top 5 Barn House Swank features YBH most often incorporates into our designs.
#1. Two-Story Barn House Entry Foyer
A two-story foyer creates a visually impressive entrance creating a dramatic first impression of the interior. A soaring open space filled with light imparts a luxurious feeling immediately upon entering the home. A two-story foyer is a true luxury in that it consumes space that could serve a more utilitarian function. In a stick-built home, this introduces complications in framing, covering and insulating the walls. None of these issues exist with a pre-fab YBH post and beam home using pre-built True Wall™ and True Roof™ panels.
#2. Over Size Kitchen with Extra Appliances
Specific amenities in upscale kitchens include items such as a second sink, double ovens, double refrigerator/freezers and/or a wine cooler, a warming drawer, and two dishwashers.
#3. Two-Story Barn House Family Room
Like a two-story entry foyer, a two-story barn house family room is dramatic, yet uses space that could be used for some other purpose—the very definition of a luxury. The space consumed is generally greater for a two-story family room, because there is more floor space in the typical family room than the typical entry foyer.
#4. Upscale Walk-In Closets
These walk-in closets are not a hole in the wall with a door on the front. These are expansive areas where hanging clothes, folded sweaters, shoes and jewelry, each have a designated space. These closets are also likely to have mirrors, seating, and beautiful wood and/or metal detail.
#5. An Outdoor Kitchen
Although an outdoor kitchen can be a relatively simple grilling area, it may also be a more elaborate affair with many of the amenities found in an indoor kitchen; these include a sink, refrigerator, lighting, cabinetry, and natural stone counter tops. Variations of these products are sometimes designed specifically for use outdoors—by waterproofing them, for example. A second complete kitchen constructed outdoors qualifies as a luxury item, appropriate in upscale homes.
