A substantial number of Yankee Barn homeowners are asking themselves “what do I deserve in a home?”. The “I Deserve It” phrase describes home design features or rooms that aren’t typically necessary but, once experienced by the homeowner, are must-haves. We’ve concentrated on a few of these spaces which put the extra in these special features.
Over Size Kitchen Island
The kitchen remains the hub of the home and an oversized kitchen island provides a multi-functional space. Used for prepping food, entertaining, homework or enjoying family, a well-designed kitchen island is the place where it all happens. Style options and designs are endless. Be aware of the need for an open floor plan and flow patterns when incorporating a large island; appropriate scale is an absolute must for maximum efficiency.
Spa-Like En Suite
Contemporary, Zen-like bathroom retreats are very desirable for today’s new home buyers. Yankee Barn homeowners have designed master baths that give their bathroom the ultimate spa-like sensation.
Flex Spaces
Homeowners love the opportunity to design a home that fits their personality and preferences. This may be a man cave in the basement, a craft room in a loft space or just an added room that serves as both a den and guest suite. No matter the function, extra square footage creates desired privacy and the “I Deserve” feature homeowners desire.
Outdoor Entertaining Area
In all types of climates, a well-designed outdoor oasis seals the deal for many homeowners. Acting as additional square footage, the space can cater to a variety of functions; cooking, lounging, entertaining or enjoying a night cap.
Master Bedroom Retreat
A homeowner’s master bedroom is the final retreat from the hectic and crazy that encompasses daily life. Bedroom retreats that encourage relaxation and recharges the battery are as individual as the homeowner. Choose colors and styles that calm and sooth the soul.
Customized Owner’s Entry
Rarely do homeowners enter their home from the front entrance. After a day of work and/or carpooling kids, the garage is typically the first step into the house. Rather than an overwhelming abundance of shoes, coats and laundry, executing an owner’s entry that has plenty of storage space and is aesthetically pleasing becomes an “I Deserve It” room.
A well planned and thoughtfully designed home should encompass one or more, of these “I Deserve It” features. See photos for inspiration on how to incorporate these design ideas into your very own Yankee Barn Home.
Good things to think about! I would add these to an “I deserve it” list:
– walk-in pantry attached to kitchen.
– Two walk in closets in master suite, or one very big one.
– Dual sinks in master suite (that may be standard these days).
– Sun room with large picture windows (that could be the flex space mentioned).
Thank you, Laura! We like every single one of your ideas (you’re correct on the duel sink point). We’ll probably write a Part Two feature for the I Deserve It list to add in your ideas. :)
