Our barn, The Bennington Carriage House, is gearing up for the holiday season to begin. We’re looking forward to spending time with good friends and family over the weeks to come. As I wrote in a past article on life in our barn, we love living in this unique home, particularly at holiday time. I know it may sound corny (no seasonal pun intended) but there really is something to the Yankee Barn lifestyle. It’s a plain yet refined, relaxed yet busy, type of existence. It’s hard to imagine living anywhere else!
Here’s what’s going on right now as I write: the dogs and my husband are snoozing (read snoring) as I’m comfortably tucked in at my writing space with a view of the most beautiful post and beam structure – ever! Fall decorations are up, an organic turkey has been ordered, and I just got off the phone with my mom – we’re planning this year’s dinner together. It will be some variation on our usual theme – there’s amazing comfort in our routine. Everyone gets in on dinner prep. At some point, there’s a family discussion (read argument) about something – it can be anything, but usually involves politics. That’s the way our family operates. We’re talkative, loud, and VERY opinionated! None of us would have it any other way.
As it’s so close to turkey day, I thought I’ve give you a look around our barn as we prep for this year’s Thanksgiving. I hope you enjoy the photos of life as it happens in and around our house. The photos with snow are from last year when we got hammered by a snowstorm as Thanksgiving approached. The remainder of the photos were taken over the last week or so. All the pictures were shot by me, and I don’t need to remind you I am definitely not a professional photographer. BTW – Yes, those are real turkeys wandering through our yard – taken through my screened window, hence the fuzziness. They appear blissfully unaware of the impending holiday.
Finally, and most importantly, we at Yankee Barn Homes want to wish you and yours a very safe and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
