Yankee Barn Homes’ newest shingle style is coming along nicely. Located in East Hampton, NY, Cove Hollow is a result of the success we had with our first shingle style, Sands Point. This time out, we’ve changed a few things around and added new architectural features (please see the two previous posts on Cove Hollow, Custom Shingle Style and Shingle Style up in 8 Days).
An aesthetic strength of Yankee Barn Homes is our timber frame; the appearance is of a hand-crafted finish. Your timbers may be custom finished on the job site (as is being done with Cove Hollow) or pre-finished at our factory. In this house, brackets were added; YBH can add a variety of brackets or not, your choice. The timber frame style for Cove Hollow is known as an A Frame. This can be seen in the gallery photos. By the way, we’ll be exploring a number of frame styles used by Yankee Barn in an upcoming post. Keep an eye out for it in a few weeks.
Cove Hollow is an excellent example of how YBH creates the deception of a cottage appearance on the exterior, while using a timber frame on the interior. For example, the use of diamond pane windows speaks to the exterior vernacular of Shingle Style. YBH has huge flexibility in window and door types; this helps to achieve the architectural style you desire. Cove Hollow has a combination of window styles; all are all true divided light. Look closely and you’ll see a combination of multi-pane casement, 6 over 1 double hung, and diamond pane windows are used on this house.
Check back in the next few months as there’s plenty yet to come, particularly with interior details. Cove Hollow promises to be one great looking and energy efficient home!
