A Post and Beam Farmhouse Style Guest Cottage has followed me around for several years now. It was the first post and beam cottage I’d ever seen and I took an immediate liking to it. Nothing has changed over the intervening years as it remains one of my most favorite, even though others have come calling since. There’s something about this space that is immediately inviting. Designed and built by Yankee Barn Homes, it is the guest quarters of a larger Yankee Barn home located in the rolling hills of southern New England.
At first sight, you realize the cottage has charisma. The stone wall, the front porch with hanging swing, the perfectly proportioned cupola, even its cheerful pale yellow shade, are all features that say “Welcome”.
As you pull in to park, a two-story arched window comes into view. Rocking chairs and board and batten siding can also be seen. This is a cottage meant for fun and relaxation.
Before entering, take a stroll around the exterior of this guest house. Immediately upon coming front and center of the great room window, you’ll spy the screened-in back porch complete with outdoor patio, both which get full morning sun – perfect for lolling with coffee and the newspaper.
As you pass the screened in porch and round the back corner, the more private bedroom(s) side of the cottage may be seen. The upstairs bedroom has a lovely little balcony, ideal for sunset viewing.
Guest Quarters of a Larger Yankee Barn Home
The time has finally arrived for a peak inside. This guest cottage has everything you could need or want for a weekend stay or extended visit. Heck, my husband and I could live in this guest house as the size is perfect for two empty-nesters.
Upon entering, several things catch the eye right away. The wonderful open floor plan of Farmhouse Style, the solid rail balcony on the upper bedroom and a pair of sliding shutters on the interior window which mimic old barn doors – no wonder I like this place.
On the other side of those great shutters lies a spacious loft and bedroom area with a bird’s eye view of that gorgeous post and beam frame. I love the symmetry and clean lines of this structure – perfect!
This farmhouse-style cottage is perfect for a multitude of purposes. Guest house, second home, primary home or pool house – just to name a few. No wonder it’s one of my all-time favorites!
