The kitchen layout is one of the first considerations when designing a home. Many of your preferences will need to be considered and decided before drawings of your new or remodeled home may begin. Will you have an eat-in kitchen? Do you prefer an open family area as part of the floor plan or do you want your work space to be a separate room? What type of cooking will you do? Will you be a solo cook or is it a family affair?
Now is also the time to choose all appliances so electrical and technological needs may be included in the plans. Storage space is a must. Even in compact kitchens, appropriate amounts of cupboard and storage space needs to be included or there will be one unhappy cook in the kitchen; guaranteed!
When designing a post and beam kitchen, there’s one more consideration: the look of the beams. How will they be used in the appearance of your kitchen? Will their role be prominent or will they play a “supporting role” – pun intended – in the look of your new kitchen?
Here are a more examples of how several timber frame owners decided these questions for themselves.
