I have personal experience with this one. My sister was recently quoted a starting price of $80,000 for her small, nothing fancy kitchen reno in Southern Maine. She’d also need to wait almost a year for the reno to begin as the contractor was scheduling out months in advance.

However, the vast difference between a resale price with renovations and a new home build price has all but disappeared. The advantages to building new have become greater over the past 5 years because the expense of a new build no longer far outweighs that of a resale.
