Putney Carriage House
Putney Carriage House is currently underway in a New England coastal community known for it’s inspired designs. New England has some of the oldest architecture in the country, therefore when building in certain communities there are design requirements. This is no problem for Yankee Barn Homes as we design and build in just about any architectural style.
The Putney Carriage House owes it’s design origins the the Victorian era carriage house and more recently, to our own Bennington Carriage House. After our client toured the Bennington, he was ready to get started on his own vision and the Putney was born.
Know for an “upside-down” living arrangement, the carriage house is an ideal design for either a primary downsize residence or the perfect addition to a home. As an addition, it affords guest space under a different roof. Something many of us crave when friends and family visit. Nothing against our loved-ones, we simply need private space for quiet time. Equally important, it allows for storage space. Who can’t use more of that?

Why We Love Timber Carriage Houses
First, what’s not to love about a timber frame home, carriage house or otherwise? Vaulted ceilings, stunning post and beam that frames the space, and room to roam (even in smaller dwellings). Add the appeal of a New England style barn and you’ve got a beautiful piece of architecture.
A Yankee Barn Carriage House combines elegant, energy efficient living quarters and vehicle storage space within a single structure.
The Putney is all of these things, rolled into 1,718 square feet. We’ve heard mention of natural stonework, gleaming metals and a beautiful copper fish-scale cap on the cupola being part of the house. We’ve seen sneak peeks, but not yet the entire home. We’re excited to see what this little barn by the sea has in store for us.
A photoshoot is slated to take place this coming spring or summer. We already know it will produce some amazing photographs. We’re also betting the Putney will “pay it forward” and inspire the next YBH carriage house. Will it be yours?
