Small Barn House might not be the first three words you associate with Yankee Barn Homes. We design and build some gorgeous homes in the three, four, and more, thousand square foot range. However, in recent years downsizing has gone beyond a trend to a preferred way of living. Yankee Barn has seen more and more requests for a smaller foot print while maintaining the high quality build technology Yankee Barn Homes is known to provide. Our newest entry in the small barn home category is The Mont Calm. At 1585 square feet, the 3 bedroom, two bath post and beam home offers all the perks of a larger timber frame in a smaller design.
The post and beam timber frame of the Mont Calm allows for higher ceilings, an open floor plan, and a lofted ceiling in the living room. All are important features for a smaller home because they allow the barn house not to appear or feel cramped. The first floor has many of the features found in a larger home; a master bedroom and bath, laundry room, foyer, open concept living room, dining room and kitchen. The plan is also well designed in that the bed, bath and laundry rooms are separated from communal spaces (kitchen , dining and living rooms) by an open area foyer and a staircase.
The second level of this small barn house plan has two bedrooms, a full second bath and a loft area overlooking the living room which can be used as a reading area, a play space, an office, or in anyway the owner sees fit. All in the envelope of 531 square feet. That’s great design in a smaller space!
The Mont Calm is currently under construction in the hills of New England. We will be following this small barn house as it makes it’s way through the on-site build phase. Actually, the little cutie is already up and nearly enclosed! We’ve just gotten photos in, so you’ll be seeing an update fairly soon. Be sure to follow us as this is going to be one special small barn house.
