Yankee Barn Shop Foreman, Ryan Avery, plays an integral part in each YBH build. He’s the unsung hero of each and every Yankee Barn that’s built, and definitely someone you’d like to know. We recently spoke with Ryan about himself and his job and YBH. The role he plays in each build project is a big one; from determining the build sequence to scheduling jobs to making deadlines. Ryan not only oversees these facets of his job, he’s also right in there building along side his crew.
YBH: Tell Us A Bit About Yourself.
Ryan: I grew up in Lebanon, NH and graduated from Lebanon High School in 2002. After school I joined the United States Marines. From there I joined the U.S. Army in 2004. I deployed to Iraq in the fall of 2005 and returned a year later. I left the U.S. Army in 2007 and returned to the Upper Valley, moving to Grantham where I now live.
YBH: What Drew You To Yankee Barn Homes?
Ryan: Ever since I was a little boy, I have loved to build things with my hands. When the opportunity to work at YBH came along in the winter of 2012, I jumped at the chance and never looked back! I loved the job and excelled at it. Today, I am the Shop Foreman with 4 very talented guys working under my supervision. Honestly, I could not ask for a better team to work on the assembly of these custom homes.
YBH: Explain Your Job Process.
Ryan: As Shop Foreman I take build plans received from the design department and break down the jobs into sections and build sequence. I schedule jobs and ensure we can make deadlines. I am also responsible for for inventory of our materials and the quality of our product.
YBH: What’s Next At Yankee Barn?
Ryan: I have a very exciting fall/winter coming up with many beautiful homes to build. I look forward to meeting the new people who are building, as well as people interested in our homes. I always look forward to showing them how the best post and beam homes on the planet are built!
