Designing Outdoor Spaces Is Important
Outdoor spaces complete the exterior look of a home. No matter the site appearance, every home’s curb appeal is greatly improved when landscaping is incorporated into home design. While Yankee Barn Homes does not directly work on the landscaping, we do incorporate each homeowners’ thoughts and ideas into the overall plan.
For instance, many homes we build have expansive window walls that open onto decks or patios. What those decks or patios look like are conceived at the same time as the exterior appearance of the home. The house needs to suit its site, therefore topography and site appearance should be considered. Note two of our homes and their settings, Summer Wind and Catskill Lodge. Summer Wind is an oceanfront seasonal house and Catskill Lodge is primarily a mountain ski home. Their settings could not be more different. With each house, the architecture reflects the site and setting.
Plan For Now and Plan Ahead
As with any build, not everything can or should happen all at once. Landscaping takes time to put in and time to grow to maturity. However, having a plan before you break ground is important. Whether that plan gets altered as you proceed doesn’t matter. Knowing your site and your outdoor living style will help you complete the picture of your home. Are you a deck person, a front porch person, a garden view person or all three? Does your site have spectacular views and/or exterior areas you want to highlight and feature?
Once you have your visions for the site, be sure to let our design team know. This makes a difference in what they’ll suggest for your home. The site not only dicates how and where your new home will sit, it offers suggestions for the home’s exterior appearance.
