Yankee Barn Homes relies heavily on homeowner feedback. We get to know our clients quite well during the build process and love it when they give us information on our product and process. Over the course of this series, you’ll meet YBH homeowners and hear what they have to say on a number of topics. Today we’re speaking with the owner of The Ironwood, a gorgeous post and beam home with interiors done in an Olde World European style.
Meet the Ironwood Owners
YBH: Why did you decide to use Yankee Barn Homes as your home builder?
Owner: We came to YBH after initially contracting with another post and beam home builder. We were unable to get a satisfactory design from the original home builder despite nearly 1 year of meetings and drawings. We selected YBH after researching the company and meeting with Jon Sevigny, one of the YBH designers, to discuss our concerns and inability to arrive at a design with the prior company. It took only 2 meetings for Jon to bring us the exact design concept we were seeking! Further, Jon offered creative suggestions for design elements we became quite excited about, and happily had him incorporate into our home. We were listened to, and all efforts went toward creating the exact “vibe” we wanted for our home; one that reflected our personal taste and integrated well with the environment surrounding our new home. Our house was functionally and aesthetically planned to accomplish our goals and meet the needs of our family.
YBH: Can you tell us about your experience with Yankee Barn Homes?
Owner: Our experience with YBH was extremely “user friendly”. We were respected in the process at every turn. Our ideas and thoughts were always considered and integrated into our home design. Any problems that arose within the process were addressed in a timely manner, and solutions were proposed…often a number of solutions. We could then contemplate the ramifications of each solution and evaluate what would work best for our personal needs. Communication between us and YBH was outstanding; something we felt was critical to making the experience of building our home easy and worry free. There was no frustration regarding not getting follow-up or return calls when we had a question or concern. We were always responded to promptly and accurately.
YBH: What did you find especially satisfying about working with YBH?
Owner: The professionals at YBH are organized and creative. They make the process of designing and building a home uncomplicated. The quality of the frame structure is stunning! The flexibility of thinking among the design team is nothing short of a great pleasure to participate in. We never felt intimidated or like we couldn’t ask questions. We asked lots of questions and were always satisfied with the answers.
YBH: What were your MUST HAVES when designing your new home?
Owner: We had a number of must haves. One that we really wanted involved a span of space between the beams in the wall that was large enough to accommodate lots of windows. We wanted lots of natural light and an open floor plan. We got exactly that! Further, we wanted a round room with lots of windows with a fireplace on the back of the home to bring in all the surrounding nature. Mission Accomplished! French doors on either side of the fireplace with transom windows and another feature window above, are also design elements that really stand out. We wanted iron, but not cold. Iron double entry doors were on the list. Balancing iron work with the wood was all part of the design challenge, and was handled with great skill by YBH.
YBH: What are your favorite rooms/spaces in your new home?
Owner: It’s said the kitchen is the heart of the home. Our kitchen is warm and inviting with a breakfast nook tucked into a bank of windows overlooking a meadow. A counter-top peninsula fireplace with glass on 3 sides allows a view from the kitchen into the dining area, with further sight lines to the great room. Custom cabinetry by Plain & Fancy is an absolute highlight throughout our home. It enhances the post and beam structure and brings amazing texture to every space. I would be remiss if I did not mention the talented Heidi Huddleston of Delicious Kitchens, who worked with YBH to bring our kitchen, baths, bar, and many other spaces to life with her designs! YBH worked well with all of the professionals who contributed to the success of our project. The master bath is stunning, complete with a slipper style copper soaking tub! I also love the tranquility to be found in the round room with it’s many windows and views.
YBH: How likely would you be to recommend Yankee Barn Homes to those looking to build a new home?
Owner: We recommend YBH without reservation to any prospective home owner! The process was smooth and organized and the level of quality and customization was outstanding! There is wonderful creativity happening in design with an eye toward energy efficiency, functionality and beauty. We could not be happier with the finished product!!
