Barn house does not necessarily mean “ traditional barn style home”. In the world of Yankee Barn Homes, the appearance of a home may be in just about any architectural style the client wishes. For example The Alexandria has a farmhouse presence due to a long porch on the gable end that wraps around the eave wall. The horizontal clapboard siding, classic window style, unique 3-sided bump out, and screened porch also move the exterior of this home away from a traditional barn style house. But if you look at the shape employed, a simple barn rectangle has been used. On the interior, a post and beam frame allows for an open floor plan not found in the typical farmhouse.
The first level of the Alexandria floor plan has a pronounced open concept layout. The only spaces with walls are the stairwell and playroom. As this house will sit lakeside, the screened in porch offers another good weather living space option facing the water. The formal entry to the home is located between the dining and kitchen areas with an informal entry in the house/garage connector. The 3-sided bump out in the living room allows for more space and added water view potential.
The second level uses every inch of available square footage. While this is a moderate size post and beam home at 2214 sq ft, the second level plan includes a master bedroom/bath suite with walk-in closet, 2 more bedrooms with a shared full bath, a centrally located laundry room, linen closet, and an office/media room. Due to the post and beam frame, vaulted ceilings are utilized in all three bedrooms. Wow, that’s a lot of bang in 1004 sq ft.
