Mid Century Modern Hill House
Mid century modern Hill House is Yankee Barn’s contemporary take on the classic mid-century modern architectural style.
Mid-century modern homes are characterized by their seamless integration with nature, open floor plans, and emphasis on functionality. One of the most notable features is the use of large windows and sliding glass doors, which create a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing for natural light to flood the interiors. Rooflines are often flat or low-pitched, and the overall design tends to feature clean lines and geometric shapes, reflecting a minimalist aesthetic. Materials such as wood, stone, and metal are commonly used, showcasing a blend of organic and industrial elements.
Built in 2019, Hill House showcases all of the aforementioned MCM features. But don’t take our word for it, see it for yourself. You’ll quickly understand why it inspired five more builds.
Vail East
Vail East mimics a great deal of the Hill House design, then expands on it. Currently under construction in the hills of New Hampshire, Vail increases the square footage to 2,598 while adding two bedrooms and a full bath on the second level. It also incorporates a connector between the mud room/laundry room and a two-car garage.
Highland View
Highland View’s square footage is between that of Hill House and Vail East. Closer to Hill House in size at 2,242 square feet, Highland View sits in the Green Mountains of Vermont commanding extraordinary views from every window. Nearing completion, this version of Hill House was designed and in production within a matter of months because the owners came to Yankee Barn knowing exactly what they wanted. This mid-century modern style home has two bedrooms and two and one-half baths.
North Shore
North Shore is our smallest version of the Hill House design. At 1,641 square feet, offering one bedroom and one and one-half baths, North Shore scales back on square footage but not on style. All the fundamentals of the mid-century modern style exist in its smaller footprint.
Crane Lake
Crane Lake is currently going up in the “Land of 1,000 Lakes”, a.k.a., Minnesota. This 2,294 square foot home is being built by second-time Yankee Barn homeowners. They currently live in a Yankee Barn home and love it so much, they returned to YBH to build their vacation home.
Crane Lake is aptly named due to its waterfront setting. Through the expansive use of glass, the home will offer unparallel views of both the lake and the gorgeous Minnesota countryside.
Woodland House
Last, but far from least, is Woodland House. While this home does not incorporate the one and one-half story roof of the other homes, the owner was most definitely inspired by the Hill House design. Choosing to take the house in a vertical direction due to site demands, Woodland House is as unique as it is creative in its use of space.
