Post and beam homes are nothing new to this blog, but post and beam home additions are less often discussed. This does not make them any less spectacular, as you can see from the accompanying photography of Fieldview. This home was originally a 1980’s Post Modern house. There was nothing special about it architecturally speaking. Truthfully, it was an eye sore, but it’s location was/is a different matter. An East Hampton, NY site that abuts a nature preserve is a rare occurrence, but Jeffrey Rosen has a gift for finding these deals. It doesn’t hurt that he’s co-owner and Creative Director for Yankee Barn Homes, either. Jeffrey’s “diamond-in-the-rough” radar went off as soon as he saw the original house.
In this, our final post on this home, we’ll discuss the result of Jeff’s architectural design creativity. To see the home as it began and then progressed, please read Post and Beam Addition: Drab to Fab and Post and Beam Additions: Fieldview Progress. Fieldview’s post and beam addition allowed the interior space of the house to be completely reworked and opened up. None of the original rooms are where they used to be as a result of the new addition; a spectacular post and beam two-story kitchen and dining room with octagonal sun room. The pergola-covered deck just off the kitchen is the “cherry on top”.
Yankee Barn Homes’ superior True Roof™ and True Wall™ panel systems make the two-story open ceiling space a non-issue when it comes to heating and cooling. The energy-efficient foil faced polyisocyanurate insulation (say that fast three times) used in the wall and roof panels is key; see more HERE. Once you realize high ceilings are no longer an energy draining nightmare, a world of beautiful, lofted space opens up (no pun intended).
In viewing the floor plans for this home you quickly realize this Yankee Barn Homes post and beam addition turned a cramped, drab 1980’s house into a hybrid post and beam beauty. If you’re in the market for a home expansion, you can not go wrong speaking with Yankee Barn Homes. Our superior quality and creative design team are second to none! These photos prove it.
