Prefab Home Myths And Misconceptions
The words prefabricated home can still elicit a less than positive response from some. However, this would be an outdated reaction for this construction method. Prefabricated homes have not only gained in popularity but also in their reputation for being quality construction. Whether you’re looking for pre built cottages, prefab mountain homes or any other architectural style, Yankee Barn Homes demystifies preconceived notions about building a prefabricated home.
Prefabricated Homes Are Modular Homes FALSE
It understandable why this might be confusing. While all modular homes are prefab homes, all prefab homes are not modular homes. The best article to explain the difference is from Acuity Insurance: The Difference Between Prefab and Modular Construction.
Prefab Homes Are Cheaply Constructed FALSE
In truth, YBH prefabricated homes are constructed to a much higher standard using superior build materials. Polyisocyanurate insulation, Zip Systems ® including sheathing and tape, Low-E windows or better pre-installed in our True Wall panels, and PFS-TECO certified vented True Roof™ Panels. We could go on and on. Read More
Prefabricated Homes Don’t Hold Their Value FALSE
This myth has existed since the term prefab first came into the home building lexicon. Whether it was true or not then, it certainly is not true in the year 2023 (or any other year since the mid 1990s). With all the technology-based advancements in construction, a prefabricated home is now the build process to beat. Home components produced in temperature-controlled environments that go up within weeks is tough to surpass. No stick-built home can do it.
Because YBH builds quality components using top grade materials, our houses stand the test of time and the test of value. The old adage “your get what you pay for” rings true with us. All you need to do is look at the re-sale value of a YBH for confirmation.
Prefabricated Houses Are Not Energy Efficient FALSE
Yankee Barn Homes are some of the most energy efficient homes on the market and we can back that statement up. Take a look at this article about one of our post and beam mountain homes located at the base of Snoqualmie Ski Resort in Washington. This report debunks any prefab home myths about energy efficiency with cold hard stats.
Snoqualmie Lodge has received an outstanding energy report from Puget Sound Energy.
Prefabs Are Boxy and Ugly FALSE
Um… no. I’m not certain where this myth started but it could not be further from the truth. YBH designs high-end custom post and beam, partial post and beam and panelized homes. The key word there is high-end. Our homes are one-of-a-kind. The YBH Design Team works in conjunction with each homeowner (and/or the home owner’s architect) to create the exact plan the homeowner desires. Every home we build is a custom design.
