Barn houses are a time-honored home style for those seeking open concept floor plans, lofted spaces and post and beam architecture. Yankee Barn Homes excels at the barn house design. As a custom design and build company, YBH remains at the forefront of designing barn houses. One of our more unique and appealing build features is that there is no requirement to build one of our existing barn house plans. We have a talented engineering staff at your service to design a home based on your requirements, including FEMA regulations! More on this later….
Here’s what often happens when potential clients come to YBH. They’ve seen one of our home plans and love it, but need it to be smaller, larger, or in a completely different configuration. NO PROBLEM; we do it all the time! Our newest design, the Norwich Barn Home, is a perfect example. It’s based on the Hartford; a YBH carriage house design. Furthermore, it’s one of three new designs currently in production based on the Hartford.
Many potential clients are seeking smaller, more energy-efficient homes without forfeiting the perks of a much larger house. Oversized windows, lofted ceilings, open floor plans, and ample storage all remain possible. This is the case with the Norwich Barn Home. The clients loved the Hartford design, but it was a bit too modest for their needs. Upper level storage and more square footage on the lower and main levels were must-haves. That’s how the Hartford plan ( 1181 sq ft) morphed into the Norwich Barn Home plan (2189 sq ft). Still a moderate size plan, but expanded from the original to meet this family’s lifestyle.
Earlier I mentioned FEMA regulations. The Norwich will be built on a floodplain. Yankee Barn Homes is proud to say our plan complies with FEMA regulations. Our True Wall™ and True Roof™ Panels are constructed using Polyisocyanurate insulation, an energy-efficient and effective insulation that floats!
While the Norwich is not a small barn home and the Hartford is; it’s easy to see how one design grew out of the other. But we’re not finished yet. There are two more barn houses currently in design based on the Hartford. I’ll be bringing them to you as soon as they enter the production phase. Stay tuned….
