Contemporary barn house plans are often requested by Yankee Barn Homes’ clients. With a move toward streamlined living while simultaneously planning for the future – i.e. single floor living – we’re designing some gorgeous contemporary barn homes. The Montshire Contemporary is a perfect case in point. This 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home comes in at 2607 sq feet of living space with an additional 1999 sq ft of garage/screened porch/storage space tucked neatly below. The design has a unique incorporation of the garage space. It is part of the overall structure while being completely separate from the house due to the Dog Trot (see lower level floor plans). The sliding barn doors on either side of the dog trot allow the area to be open during good weather and closed when it turns inclement. Excellent design, if we do say so, ourselves!
The first floor of The Montshire barn house plans provides an open living space and a master bedroom suite. The public and private spaces of the first level are separated by a hallway which houses the laundry room, linen closet, and half-bath. At the top of the stairs leading from the lower level is a small mudroom with closet and a pantry for kitchen dry goods storage. The post and beam kitchen is open to both the dining and great rooms. The great room and part of the dining area having a two-story exposed timber lofted ceiling. The post and beam frame is carried through to the exterior of the home by way of the sleek porch design running the length of the dining/great room gable end.
The second level of the barn house plans provide two more bedrooms and a full bath – one of the bedrooms may be used in a number of ways, here as a study – with a lofted balcony space open to the cupola above. Completing the plan is the lower level with a screened in porch and a large storage/utility space rounding out this floor plan.
