The Mill River Barn house has been completed. We first saw this Neo-Victorian barn home under construction early last year summer. Since then it has been finished and the homeowners have moved in. At 1,764 square feet, this small Yankee Barn neither lives nor feels small. The Mill River Barn is a reconfiguration of our Bennington Carriage House plan into a house plan.
The post and beam frame and Yankee Barn True Roof and True Wall Panels allow for a tightly sealed home with excellent energy efficiency and loads of passive solar gain. You may not be aware of the advantages of the YBH Wall panels. Please allow me a moment to brag. The True Wall Panel system not only has 4″ of solid polyisocyanurate foam (optional 6″), it is a complete wall system with windows installed and a wall which is very easy to wire for electricity. These wall panels are larger than Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) and may be easily trimmed or modified. They install quickly and cabinetry can be hung without extra bracing. All this in the wall panels alone. On top of that, consider the architectural beauty of a barn style home with its exposed interior timber frame, and you’ve got a complete winner!
The Mill River barn floor plan is a 2 bath, 2-3 bedroom home perfect for an empty nest couple as a forever home. The plan also works equally well as a second home. In this iteration, the main living space with kitchen, great room and master bedroom/bath is on the second floor. However, Yankee Barn Homes is a custom design company thus this plan may be altered to suit.
