At Yankee Barn Homes, we are often asked what interior styles and decors look good or “work” in a post and beam home. While we believe any and all can work, we’ve put together a few “rooms” to give you an idea of what’s hot right now, and why we like the looks we’ve chosen. Our boards have been selected and designed by Yankee Barn’s very own Wendy Bircher. She will be answering questions regarding her thought process and how these designs came about. Post and Beam Living will be presenting Wendy’s concepts in our new Barn Homes Instant Room series over the course of the next few months. Enjoy, and please send us any comments/questions. We love hearing from you!
Barn Homes: A Soothing Master Bedroom
YBH – I see that the outside of this Yankee Barn home is yellow, and that you brought the same color into the house, what were you thinking?
WB – I love soft yellows on a house, and on a barn, it’s completely unexpected! Yellow lets the house pop against its natural surroundings, and yellow brought inside, is happy and soothing. The clients for this master bedroom felt the same way, and then asked to layer it with blue as the accent. Blue and yellow are a great combination!
YBH – So, the theme for the bedroom started with your love for color and went from there?
WB – Exactly. The clients wanted a coastal feeling, natural materials, yellows and blues. The language of the room says “refreshing”, white washed beams, sisal carpets, and plenty of texture.
YBH – Anything else you’d like to tell us?
WB – As a mother of three, with a full time job, nothing makes me happier then coming home to a master bedroom that’s says “relax”. I often find myself with a cup of hot tea and a good book, retreating to my bedroom. I tried to provide that same experience for my clients with this room. A good designer takes all their cues from their client, blends them with their own skills, and presto, a beautiful environment is the end result.
