Each of the following post and beam floor plans are from Yankee Barn Homes, and are recommended here because they have been proven to work. Each one allows for unrestricted traffic flow and an efficient means to get from public to private spaces easily and succinctly. However, they are all unique in their design and differ in their square footage. I’ll begin with the smallest Yankee Barn plan and progress up through mid-sized plans, ending with a large floor plan.
Post and Beam Floor Plans : The YBH Cottage
This is the smallest home featured today. Coming in at 1328 sq ft, the cottage is a two bedroom design to be used as either a second home or a retirement/first home option. Every inch of space is used efficiently.
The Sunapee
This home is basically a rectangle with a slight inset for the entryway. At 2481 sq ft, it is very cost-effective as it has no ells or jut-outs. The floor plan allows for three to four bedrooms, depending on personal needs.
The English Cottage
The Yankee Barn Homes English Cottage is actually two rectangular barn buildings set at an overlapping perpendicular angle to one another. Coming in at 3223 square feet, this post and beam home has gorgeous exposed beam spaces on both levels plus a lofted ceiling family room.
Laurel Hollow
Recently featured in Exceptional Properties e-newsletter, this barn style home is two rectangles set at a ninety degree angle to each other, including a breakfast nook bump-out. The square footage on this home is 3500 and has an en-suite in the lower level (not shown on these plans).
