A Yankee Barn home is the perfect setting for all things Restoration Hardware, particularly when it comes to lighting. Recently, new owners of a Yankee Barn home in Connecticut discovered this very fact, with stunning results. As post and beam barn homes are inherently visually strong, the lighting must compliment the structure while not either overpowering it or getting lost in it. Therefore, care must be taken to get just the right style of lighting and most importantly, the correct size. The rule of thumb for chandeliers in great rooms is “bigger is better”. Let’s take a look to see how this Connecticut couple got it right!
The Great Room
In this large and lofted space, it would be east for a pendant light or small chandelier to get overwhelmed or lost. These homeowners chose Restoration Hardware’s Foucaults Orb Crystal Chandelier in Rustic Iron as their lighting and focal centerpiece.
crystal and iron orb light stands out.
The Master Bedroom
In the master bedroom, a less formal and lighter touch was required for the lighting, however due to a lofted ceiling, once again the light(s) needed to be strong enough to stand on their own. The owners killed two birds with one stone by staying within the family of orb lighting from Restoration Hardware, while toning it down with a more rustic style. They also chose to use two medium size lights to get more light coverage, as well as for balance and symmetry of the space.
The Breakfast Nook
Here, the owners chose to go with a more traditional, yet “old school” style of kitchen lighting. The use of the Schoolhouse Pendant from RH works nicely with the light and clean lines of the breakfast nook.
