Our Yankee Barn tea house has served a number of purposes over the four years since it was built. Along with a being a wonderful “outdoor room” that sits alongside our brook, the post and beam tea house has served as 1) a quiet place in our Zen garden to get away from it all; 2) a “reading room” for lazy summer afternoons; 3) a beautiful setting for a cocktail party after our daughter’s wedding; 4) the subject of New Hampshire Home magazine, including the magazine cover!; and now 5) my husband’s Zen Garden Tai chi Studio. Yes, I said Tai chi studio. Three days a week, at various times throughout the day, off my husband goes to our tea house, in the midst of our beautiful Zen garden, to tech Tai chi. I can not think of a more perfect place to learn this peaceful form of martial arts. It has recently been discovered and reported that doing Tai chi will actually reverse or ward off the debilitating effects of Alzheimer‘s and dementia! It has been proven to increase the size and working ability of the Hippocampus, the part of the brain attacked by Alzheimer’s disease. This being said, please take a look at how our tea house has served our mind-body well over the years.
The Many Faces of Our Yankee Barn Tea House
We are so very glad we chose to build this outdoor room. The tea house has provided us countless hours of peace, pleasure and calm over the past years, and will certainly continue to do so in the future. We couldn’t be happier we chose to build this beautiful post and beam structure by Yankee Barn Homes.

What would a guest cottage of less than 1000 sq. ft. cost?
I know it depends on what type, style, etc you would want, but let me get some further info from our sales department and get back to you!

Thank you, Pamela. The tea house belongs to me and my husband. He is a tai chi instructor who holds classes there in the summer! Glad you like it, BeamBabe
Hi Holly,
I just tripped across your fabulous Tea House and Tai Chi Studio as I was investigating replacing an old square (1920’s) garage with a Tea or Garden House. Are plans available for the “house”? Does Yankee Barns offer anything (else) like it?
Thanks for any info!
– Andy
Hi Andy, Thanks, so glad you like it. It was recently featured, along with my husband Tony, in a Wall Street Journal article on in-home places of Zen. The article is titled “No Place Like Om”.
Yes, plans for the tea house are available. I’ll send your request and email along to Jennifer Hastings at the YBH Office. She will be in touch shortly.
BTW – A client is currently designing a larger version of the tea house for his place on Saranac Lake. You’re timing is perfect! :-) Holly
BeamBabe,
Love the Tea House and bridge at your place, and the landscape is beautiful. My wife and I own 5 acres of land with a dry up riverine, that has a 25-30 ft dept and 50 ft across on our property. We saw this picture last summer and save it on our desktop thinking this would be a wonderful idea for our place. We would use it for Yoga and evening dinners and relaxation. Where can I purchase plans for the Tea House and bridge? Or is the bridge a separate contractor/ builder?
Thank you in advance,
Simon
Hi Simon, So glad you like the tea house. Your property sounds like it would be a perfect fit! You may purchase the tea house at Yankee Barn Homes. I’ve already forwarded your request to our excellent staff. You should be hearing from them soon. You are correct, the bridge is a separate contract build. Please let me know if I may be of further assistance. You may also email at [email protected] or call us anytime at 1-800-258-9786. BeamBabe
