More often than not post and beam structures are two-story buildings, but that is not always the case. This empty-nest couple had Yankee Barn Homes design a floor plan on one level. It’s actually a very interesting concept as the main part of the building is an extended ell with a large cathedral room built off one end and another ell turned perpendicular to the first, which houses the master bedroom suite. Through the use of a shed dormer attached to the great room, there’s a fully enclosed three-season room off the dining room and another housing a hot tub, off the master bedroom. Should family and friends come to visit, guest quarters are housed abutting and above the attached garage.
Located in the mountains of New Hampshire, the views from every room in the house are amazing. The house was sited with views and a love for the out-of-doors in mind, as the owners are active outdoor enthusiasts.
The common areas of the house are completely open to one another; no partitions or walls separate the public spaces. The great room opens directly onto the kitchen area, with the dining room located off one side of the kitchen.
The post & beam kitchen counter top actually forms a “U” shape so as to afford more underneath cabinet storage. The eat-at bar is for casual meals or when the grand-kids are visiting.
But best of all is the wonderful private three-season room, complete with a hot tub. Thoughts of crisp air, a tasty beverage of choice and the hot, steamy warmth of that swirling water are floating through my mind… and oh, those views. Now that’s what I call enjoying the great outdoors!
What a wonderful job both the home owners and the folks at Yankee Barn Homes did designing this single level post & beam beauty. Kudos all around!!
