The loft area of a barn home is one of those great spaces which can be used for many different purposes. From home office to library, art gallery to reading nook, the possibilities for this space are limited only by the imagination. The space is airy yet private; perfect for whatever room suits your home and lifestyle.
Having been involved in a number of post & beam photo shoots, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to see first hand how people choose to use the loft space. Here’s just a sampling of what I’ve seen.

This loft area is actually a two level affair. The owners of this home on the coast of Rhode Island have a large number of grand children and when they all arrive at once, sleep and play space becomes very necessary!

The upper level of the kids loft has built-in cubbies so each grandchild has his or her own personal storage space.
Another great use of loft space I’ve seen time and again is as a library/home office. Utility is the obvious requirement, but who says it has to look utilitarian.

This loft has is all; a place to work, a place to read or a place to do nothing but stare out the window!
Then there’s the space we want to use for whatever purpose suits us at the moment, whether it be reading, writing, studying, painting, knitting…well, you get the idea. Whatever your intent, a loft space is one of those areas which can transform to your specifications without much fuss or bother. What’s not to love about that?

I can see myself here reading a book while soft music floats through the air and a glass of wine stands at the ready by my side!
Yet another purpose for a loft space is a crafting area. Storage may be built in or free-standing. What matters is the ease with which the space transforms for it’s intended use.
The simple beauty of the loft is this; it’s uses are vast and can be created to accommodate multiple purposes. If you’re lucky enough to have one of these spaces then you already know what I’m talking about!
