Part three in the series Homes I’m Loving Right Now is actually a barn addition to a beautiful 1700’s cape located in central New England. The young accomplished family loves to spend free time riding their horses.
The lifestyle is so much a part of their lives that when it came time to add on to their cape, the family knew a barn-style addition was the only way to go. But it had to be just right as the couple felt respecting the architecture of the 18th Century cape was necessary. The connector from old to new had to feel authentic – the overall look of the two structures needed to blend seamlessly. I believe the goal was accomplished beautifully. Just one of the reasons this horse farm in New England is one of the homes I’m loving right now!

The horse in mid-jump over the mantle in the great room is an homage to the wife; an accomplished horsewomen.

The interior connector from the 18th Century cape to the 21st Century addition employs the original beams from the house.

The same connector area from the new kitchen. Notice the copper pipes incorporated into the stair railing; a nod to the pipes used in the barn that houses the couple’s horses.

One of the horses, Charlie, is a retired Boston police horse.
