Lesson # 7: If Structure Matters, Aesthetics Are Paramount. This is where I’m probably going to insult some people and those who know me will never believe it, but tossing insults and sarcasm around is truly not my objective; at least not here.
That being said, I have strong opinions on aesthetics in general and very strong opinions on how the design and décor of a post and beam should be handled.
The thing about aesthetics is they are so easy to get wrong and can be a bit time consuming to get right. The aesthetic of an individual element may be pleasing, but when combined with the aesthetic of the overall structure, your element can end up looking mismatched or (gasp)…tacky! Be sure to take the time and think about all the fine details when building. Breaking it down into two categories will make the task a little less daunting. A: Exterior aesthetics and B: interior aesthetics.

I’m pleased how the rustic barn floors blend so well with my Venetian plaster walls.
